Whether exporting or importing, we are all facing challenges with our global logistics lately. We are seeing increasing rates, often significant and unexpected. GRIs are frequent and difficult to predict. We are facing vessel capacity shortages, and we are forced to book our shipments many weeks in advance. We have had Bookings cancelled without warning. We are struggling to find available containers when we need them, particularly inland from the major ports. The current challenges have potential to have severe impact on our current businesses, from stalled production lines to unsatisfied customers.
What is being done to address these challenges? Will rates increases continue at the current pace? Will we see improvements in vessel capacity? Will the equipment shortages become a problem of the past? As exporters and importers, what opportunities do we have to improve this situation and avoid detrimental effects on our business?

What steps can be taken now to turn our short supply of fresh water into a more sustainable resource? How can the global community improve access to clean fresh water for poor and arid nations? What are the roles of public and private sector actors? Those are some of the questions a panel of experts will explore at the 2010 George F. Kennan Forum on International Issues held Wednesday, Sept. 29.
Hosted by the Institute of World Affairs (IWA) and the Center for International Education (CIE) at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (UWM), the forum is held at the Pabst Theater, 144 E. Wells St. in downtown Milwaukee, from 6-8 p.m.
